Elementary ELA Educators,

The Frameworks and Pacing Guides have recently been updated with the following changes:

1. Benchmark includes a poem at the end of each unit, and not a poetry unit in isolation. To ensure that poetry is taught according to the cyclical fashion of Benchmark, standard RL 5 has been added as a supporting standard in grades K-5 in units that it is not essential.

2. L. 4.4 was added as a supporting standard in Unit 1.

3. L. 5.4 was added as a supporting standard in Unit 1.

4. Unit 1 Comprehensive Literacy Planners (CLPs) with KAS have been added under the "Instruction" tab in Navigator and linked into the frameworks. Units 2-10 will be added.

A new resource has been added to Navigator under the "Instruction" tab. The "Benchmark Resources Menus" folder contains resource menus with digital access directions for different parts of Benchmark Advance. Menus included are:

• Benchmark Advance Differentiated Tier 1 & Tier 2 Resources (created by the MTSS team)

• Benchmark Assessment Menu

• Benchmark Enrichment Menu

• Benchmark Small Group Menu

• Benchmark Writing Opportunities

Fifth Grade Teachers,

We have curated six optional on-demand writing opportunities for 5th grade, developed from KSA released items and teacher/school-generated prompts. These are available for schools to use for additional practice and instruction but are not required.

These tasks can be found under the "Instruction" tab in the 5th Grade Reading and Writing section. In addition, these options are now published in Pear and include the writing rubric with AI scoring enabled. Please note that teachers must still finalize the scores in Pear to mark the assignments as complete.
